Brazilian Cherry comes from Central and South America and is the most popular imported species due to its beauty and superior hardness. The sapwood of our Prefinished Brazilian Cherry Plank Style Countertops is white, gray, or pinkish in color and the heartwood may range from salmon-red to orange-brown.
Prefinished Brazilian Cherry Plank Style Countertops are constructed by gluing Brazilian Cherry wood boards side by side. The wood boards run the length of the countertop and are random widths between 3" and 6". The first and last wood boards of our Brazilian Cherry Plank Countertops may be less than 3" wide. Our prefinished wood plank style countertops are face grain providing a traditional look that has always been popular. Although our Brazilian Cherry Plank Style Countertops can be used for light food preparation when treated with a food safe mineral oil, they should not be used for cutting or chopping. If the countertop will not be used for food preparation, our conversion varnish is the recommended finishing choice.
Finishing Choices
Conversion Varnish: Three coats of our 45 sheen commercial grade conversion varnish are applied to the top surface. A special catalyzer is added for durability. Two coats are applied to all other surfaces.
This is not appropriate if the countertop may be used for food preparation.
Mineral Oil: Two coats of a food safe mineral oil are applied to all surfaces. After you receive your countertop, you should apply one coat of mineral oil to the top surface daily for one week, and monthly thereafter. You should also apply one coat of mineral oil to the sides, edges and any exposed areas underneath on this same schedule. Frequency of application can vary, but it is important to keep the countertop well oiled. Food safe mineral oil is available at most drug stores. This is appropriate if the countertop may be used for food preparation.
